Profession Loses Dr. Ken Gellatly in Tragic Air Crash

The tragic air crash near Kelowna BC that claimed the life of well-known former federal cabinet minister and Alberta premier Jim Prentice also claimed the life of Dr. Ken Gellatly of Downtown Vision Care, Calgary.

Dr. Gellatly, O.D., F.A.A.O. received his doctor of optometry degree from University of Waterloo and his F.A.A.O. in 1988. He has consulted to numerous contact lens manufacturers and has been published in several contact lens journals, and presented research papers to the American Academy of Optometry and the British Contact Lens Association. He was a part-time faculty member to the Vision Care Institute which teaches contact lens practice to new graduates from across Canada and the U.S.

Mr. Prentice, Dr. Gellatly, Sheldon Reid, retired business man of Calgary, and Jim Kruk, pilot and former RCMP officer all perished in the accident. According to a CBC report on the incident, the investigation by the Transport Safety Board could take as much as one year.
