OGS Launches 2026 World Sight Day Challenge, Calling on the Eye Care Community to Support Global Vision Access

Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) has announced the launch of the 2026 World Sight Day Challenge (WSDC), a two‑month fundraising campaign uniting optometry practices, optometry schools, industry partners and supporters across North America and beyond. Running from September 1 to October 31, the Challenge raises funds for sustainable vision care programs that deliver eye exams, glasses and optometry training to communities with little or no access to eye care.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the World Sight Day Challenge has become one of the most anticipated fundraising events in the optometry profession. Over sixty‑one days, practices, schools and individuals compete to raise funds that directly support OGS‑funded programs worldwide.

This year’s theme — It’s not just sight. It’s an entire future. — highlights the transformative impact of basic eye care. For a child who cannot see the board at school, a farmer whose livelihood depends on close work, or a teacher who wants to remain in her classroom, access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses can change the course of a life.

“The World Sight Day Challenge is one of the most powerful expressions of what the optometry community can accomplish when it comes together,” said OGS Executive Director Donna Mikulecky. “Every year, people around the globe raise their hands and say: We believe vision care should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. This year, we’re making it easier and more exciting than ever to be part of that.”

New Features for 2026

The 2026 campaign introduces several new elements designed to boost participation and engagement:

  • A live practice leaderboard, updated throughout the campaign to motivate participants and track standings in real time
  • Expanded contests, including the Leaderboard Challenge, Selfie Madness, Social Media Bingo, Rising Star and Rookie of the Year, with prizes for top performers in both practice and school categories
  • A refreshed digital toolkit, offering social media assets, patient email templates, counter cards and fundraising guides to help participants run their campaigns effectively

How to Participate

Participation is open to optometry practices, optometry schools, industry partners and individual supporters worldwide. Registration is free and available at givingsight.org/wsdc-registration.

Participants can choose from a variety of fundraising methods — from donating one day’s exam fees to organizing community events. Full details and resources are available through the updated digital toolkit.

Funds must be submitted by November 30, 2026.
