Alcon Expands Contact Lens Options for Canadians with Astigmatism

Alcon has announced expanded parameter availability in Canada across its PRECISION1 for Astigmatism, PRECISION7 for Astigmatism and TOTAL30 for Astigmatism contact lens portfolios, including the addition of -2.75 D cylinder power, providing eye care professionals with more options to fit patients with astigmatism across daily, weekly and monthly replacement modalities.

According to the company, the expanded parameters are designed to help practitioners fit a broader range of patients with astigmatism and offer greater flexibility when recommending contact lenses tailored to individual visual needs. The expanded toric parameters are now available in Canada.

“By expanding the parameters available across our WATERINNOVATIONS™ Toric Portfolio, we’re helping eye care professionals to fit more patients with astigmatism while offering greater choice across daily and reusable contact lenses,” said Vanessa Johari Hansen, Country Franchise Head, Vision Care, Alcon Canada.

Addressing a common vision condition

Astigmatism affects a significant portion of the population, with Alcon citing prevalence rates of up to 47%. The company notes that fitting contact lenses for astigmatic patients can remain challenging when prescription parameters are limited.

The expanded WATERINNOVATIONS Toric portfolio extends cylinder powers up to -2.75 D across all three product families, broadening parameter coverage for astigmatic wearers.

Expanded coverage across daily, weekly and monthly lenses

According to Alcon:

  • PRECISION1 for Astigmatism now includes a portfolio expansion of 36% and is described as the only leading daily disposable toric brand offering -2.75 D cylinder power across its entire power range.
  • PRECISION7 for Astigmatism offers what the company describes as the most readily available parameter range in the weekly reusable category.
  • TOTAL30 for Astigmatism provides parameter availability covering up to 99% of astigmatic eyes and is described as offering the most readily available parameters among leading monthly replacement toric brands.

“Expanding the parameter range means we can now offer Alcon Toric lenses to more patients with astigmatism,” said Dr. Vincent Caron, OD, of Centre d’optométrie Ste-Hélène. “Having more options available will help improve fitting efficiency and allow more patients to find an Alcon Toric lens that meets their individual vision needs.”

Dr. Andrea Lasby, OD, FAAO, FSLS, FCCSO, added that the expanded parameters provide greater flexibility in recommending toric lenses and replacement schedules suited to patients’ lifestyles and visual requirements.

The expanded toric parameters for PRECISION1, PRECISION7 and TOTAL30 for Astigmatism are now available across Canada.
