Wearable Beacon Technology Powers Vision Expo’s New Vision View Program

Vision Expo continues to invest in tools and technologies that allow attendees to personalize their experience and maximize time onsite, while helping exhibitors to increase their return on investment and receive more relevant booth traffic. The Vision View program, set to launch at Vision Expo West (Education: September 26 – 29; Exhibit Hall: September 27 – 29) in Las Vegas, NV, features new wearable beacon technology that will add a variety of benefits for both attendees and exhibitors.

Vision View Benefits for Attendees:

  • Personalized Experience: Booth recommendations will be delivered based on the attendee’s onsite activity and on the activity of similar attendees throughout all three days of the Show. Used in conjunction with pre-show recommendations shared based on interest, attendees can easily identify exhibitors that provide a solution to their needs.
  • Meaningful Networking: Attendees will regularly receive recommendations on who to meet based on similar activities and interests and can automatically and securely exchange contact information and chat directly through the Vision Expo mobile app.
  • Map the Vision Expo Journey: Attendees will receive a personalized journey report showing the people they have interacted with and the booths they visited.

Vision View Benefits for Exhibitors:

  • Increased ROI: Exhibitor booths will be recommended based on attendees’ previous activity and on the type of attendee who has already visited it, helping each booth’s traffic to be more qualified. Vision View, in combination with utilizing the Vision Expo Exhibitor Dashboard, will drive new and relevant traffic to exhibitor booths.
  • Product Gallery Enhancements: Exhibitors who participate in the Product Gallery will be able to have product content digitally delivered to interested attendees in the attendee’s journey report. Exhibitors will also be alerted when key targets are near their booth based on the exhibitor’s selected target criteria.
  • Post-Show Value: Visiting attendees will have exhibitor information in their personalized journey report, allowing for easier recall and follow-up.

Each Vision Expo registration badge will have a unique smart tag that securely broadcasts its location to Vision View hubs and sensors placed throughout the Show. This will provide insights on the types of attendees visiting various booths allowing booth recommendations to be made based on attendee behavior.

Vision View is the newest addition to a variety of digital tools that Vision Expo offers to enhance the Show experience, including the pre-show recommendations program, MyShow Planning Tool and the Vision Expo Mobile App. Each of these tools can be used together to maximize time spent at Vision Expo and improve the quality of recommendations between attendees and exhibitors.

Throughout the Show, attendees can click on Vision View in the Vision Expo mobile app to regularly access booth and networking recommendations and view their journey report.

Essilor in India: Meeting Manufacturing Needs Through Solar Energy

The “Soura Shakthi” project (Solar Energy in Hindi) began in October 2017 when Essilor set out to reduce its dependency on conventional fossil fuels by increasing its use of renewable energy. A cross-functional team from EMIL worked with government regulators to achieve the different stages required – from an in-depth risk assessment, due diligence to construction and production. The Rays Power Infra Solar Park in Karnataka was inaugurated on July 4th with a “lighting the lamp” ceremony.

EMIL has a strong track record in sustainability achievements, having reduced its energy consumption by 28% per lens produced over the past six years, as well as decrease the amount of water used by over 30%. The “Saura Shakti” initiative will provide 70% of the plant’s total energy requirements through solar power and reduce CO2 emissions by 4,800 metric tonnes per year.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the use of clean energy sources is one of the ways in which manufacturing sites contribute to the Group’s commitments to climate actions and maintaining its position as a low-carbon company.

Key Tear Film Lipid Identified

In a finding that could signal improved treatments for dry eye, Australian identified, and then synthesized in the lab, an important component of the tear film lipid layer.

While long-chain lipids make only a small portion (around 5%) of the total tear film lipid layer, they are essential for maintaining the ocular clarity of the tear film. Without the presence of these lipids, says said Stephen Blanksby, a professor at the Queensland University of Technology who led the research team in this study, “This clearly wouldn’t be satisfactory for you to look through.”

The exact structure of the lipids, known as (O-acyl)-ω-hydroxy fatty acids, was determined through mass spectrometry, because of the difficulties in obtaining large enough samples from the meibum to run other types of analysis such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

Chemist Michael J. Kelso’s group at the University of Wollongong in Australia was able to synthesize the lipid once the exact structure was determined.

The research team is currently working with Allergan, who co-funded the research, to incorporate the newly synthesized lipid into dry eye drops. “This type of work provides a framework to produce a product that mimics, and is based on, the actual components that are present in human tears,” said Blanksby. By creating dry eye drops that more closely mimic a real tear film, Blanksby hopes to alleviate the negative side effects of drops.

FDA Approval for New Dry Eye Drug Granted

Sun Pharma reports that it has received approval for CEQUA (cyclosporine ophthalmic solution) 0.09%, from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). CEQUA is indicated to increase tear production in patients with keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye).

CEQUA provides the highest FDA-approved concentration of cyclosporine A (CsA) and is the first
and only approved CsA product that incorporates a nanomicellar technology.

“Dry Eye Disease represents an area of high unmet medical need, with a significant number of
patients who are currently untreated,” said Abhay Gandhi, CEO, North America, Sun Pharma.
“The U.S. FDA approval of CEQUA represents a long-awaited dry eye treatment option and is an
important milestone in the development of Sun’s Ophthalmics business. CEQUA, with its novel
nanomicellar formulation for a proven dry eye medication, delivers a lipophilic molecule in a clear
solution form.”
