Digital Journal for Canadian Eye Doctors Makes Debut

VuePoint IDS Inc. has released the inaugural issue of EyeCareUpdate.com on April 28th. EyeCareUpdate.com provides practical clinical information for busy Eye Care Doctors.  The journal has twelve eye care sub-specialty sections, each with two section editors. Section editors are drawn from leading Canadian Ophthalmologists and Optometrists and also from experts from both USA and Europe. Dr. Raymond Stein, MD, FRCSC is the Editor-in-Chief.

The articles will be generally shorter than those typical of medical journals and be presented in an easy-read online format optimized responsively to various devices, including smart-phones and tablets.

Dr. Chris Rapuano, Director of Corneal services at Wills Eye Institute shares his wisdom on patients presenting with recurrent eye pain but no signs on clinical examination.   Dr. Barbara Caffrey, Toronto Eye Care, describes a growing phenomenon in her practice, which she describes as the “Invisible Dry Eye”.

Ocular Oncology fellows, under the leadership of Dr. Carole Shields, Co-director of Oncology Services at Wills Eye Hospital share valuable advice on early detection of small choroidal melanoma. Samuel Minaker and Victor Pegado, Victoria, BC Pediatric Ophthalmologist review the use of Atropine for myopia control, including results of recent studies in Caucasian eyes.

Eye care professionals can subscribe for free email notification and full access to the site which is now live at www.eyecareupdate.com.

An infographic explaining how myopia control spectacle lens designs work for treating childhood myopia. On the left, under "Single vision correction," it states that peripheral light rays focus behind the retina, encouraging eye growth and increased myopia progression. The diagram shows peripheral light rays focusing behind the retina, leading to the eye growing longer and becoming more myopic. On the right, under "Myopia control design," it explains that lenslets focus light in front of the retina, slowing the progression of myopia. The diagram includes illustrations of the Essilor Stellest and Hoya MIYOSMART lenses, showing light rays focused by individual lenslets and reduced myopia progression. All of the text also appears in French.
