Dr. Éric Savard has become the Quebec optometrist with the largest number of clinical optometric practices with the integration of Ottawa based Laurier Optical. Savard is also owner of City Optical, in Quebec City.
As a result of the transaction the La Vue group adds 35 new branches, including 12 located in Montreal and 23 in Ontario.
Laurier Optical was founded in Ottawa in 1985. For La Vue, founded in 2011, the move represents its first foray into Ontario.

Subsequent to the announcement of Mike Daley’s retirement in June 2016, the Council has announced Ashley Mills appointment to CEO effective November 1.
Ms Mills, in a press release, praised the leadership of Mike Daley and the efforts of the team, looking forward to the new challenge, said “…the organization is poised to be even more effective and impactful in delivering on our mission to grow the marketplace and ensure the success of our members.”
Ms. Mills rejoined the Vision Council as VP Trade Shows and Meetings in January 2016 after a 10 year hiatus. Previously she was Director of Communications for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.
Mike Daley will continue with The Vision Council through December 1, providing a transition period for the organization.
Port Chester, NY: Zyloware Eyewear announced last month that Dan Smith has rejoined the company to further develop their growing portfolio of regional and national accounts.
Dan comes with a wealth of experience in the industry, previously working for Zyloware from 2010 to 2015 as Regional Key Account Manager and National Sales Training Manager. In addition to Dan’s expansive knowledge of the eyewear industry, his accomplishments include Sales Person Of The Year award in 2014.
Dan joins Zyloware as Director of Regional Accounts to continue Zyloware’s recent success with account expansion and the launch of new collections such as Shaquille O’Neal Eyewear.
The tragic air crash near Kelowna BC that claimed the life of well-known former federal cabinet minister and Alberta premier Jim Prentice also claimed the life of Dr. Ken Gellatly of Downtown Vision Care, Calgary.
Dr. Gellatly, O.D., F.A.A.O. received his doctor of optometry degree from University of Waterloo and his F.A.A.O. in 1988. He has consulted to numerous contact lens manufacturers and has been published in several contact lens journals, and presented research papers to the American Academy of Optometry and the British Contact Lens Association. He was a part-time faculty member to the Vision Care Institute which teaches contact lens practice to new graduates from across Canada and the U.S.
Mr. Prentice, Dr. Gellatly, Sheldon Reid, retired business man of Calgary, and Jim Kruk, pilot and former RCMP officer all perished in the accident. According to a CBC report on the incident, the investigation by the Transport Safety Board could take as much as one year.
