Men’s Eyewear for the Discerning Gent!

May-June issue of Optik Magazine features IMAGINEM, which highlights advice from Eye Styling Expert Wendy Buchanan, R.O. on everything MEN!

The most important part of any man’s outfit isn’t the clothing or accessories he is wearing – it is his FACE!

The face is the most expressive body part, and the eyes are the most important. Eyewear occupies this all-important real estate and as optical professionals, we have the crucial and detailed task of styling this area of the face. Then, it is just as important to ensure that the specs are in sync with the clothing style and colours and ultimately
the total image men wish to project.

The visual impression of a man’s wardrobe style will give you clues as to his individual style, helping you in eyewear selections that are just right. While it is important to know the eyewear trends, it is even more important to get the style right. Style is permanent
and is based on an individual’s colouring, physical attributes and particular tastes.

A man who has command of his personal style will get compliments not just in the moment, but for many years. Selecting eyewear on the basis of fashion trends for the wrong personality will be a fleeting purchase. While it may be a quick and easy sale, it likely will not be a great investment for the client.

Check out Wendy’s full article to find out what wardrobe looks go with eyewear and sunwear trends in the May-June Issue of Optik Magazine.

Essilor Supports IMI’s 2021 Series of White Papers on Myopia

The International Myopia Institute (IMI) recently released the 2021 edition of white papers in a special issue of the peer-reviewed Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science (IOVS) journal. The white papers are supported by IMI platinum sponsors, including Essilor and other leading industry players, and follow the first series published in 2019.

The new white papers have been authored by leading global experts in myopia, and cover key topics such as pathologic myopia, impact of myopia, risk factors for myopia, accommodation and binocular vision in myopia development and progression, and prevention of myopia and its progression.

As myopia research and interventions continue to advance, the new white papers will serve as an evidence-based guide to eye care practitioners globally on understanding the ‘who’, ‘when’ and ‘how’ of myopia management, along with the benefits and limitations of myopia management approaches.

Dr. Monica Jong, Executive Director of the IMI, said “The original IMI 2019 white papers helped change the way clinicians thought of myopia – as an ocular condition versus a purely refractive issue – the latest IMI 2021 white papers continue to build on the evidence-base for implementing myopia management. Collaboration between all eye care stakeholders is the key to advancing research, awareness and making clinical management affordable and accessible to all children with myopia.”

Olga Prenat, VP, Education and Professional Relations, Essilor International, said, “These evidence-based papers can positively impact how myopia is managed, helping us fulfil our goal of minimizing associated vision health risks in future generations.”

Essilor also pledged its support for the publication of International Myopia Institute’s landmark series of white papers in 2019 and is a co-author of one of the white papers titled, ‘Industry Guidelines and Ethical Considerations for Myopia Control’. Since then, Essilor has published several articles in partnership with IMI, to share expert insights on improving clinical myopia management and to offer a glimpse into IMI’s successful efforts and new developments.

Bausch + Lomb and Clearside Biomedical Announce U.S. FDA Filing Acceptance for XIPERE

Bausch + Lomb, along with Clearside Biomedical, a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing and delivering treatments that restore and preserve vision for people with serious back of the eye diseases, announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted the resubmitted New Drug Application for XIPERE™ (triamcinolone acetonide suprachoroidal injectable suspension). FDA determined that the filing is a Class 2 resubmission and therefore assigned a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) action date of October 30, 2021. XIPERE is an investigational therapy with a proposed indication of treatment of macular edema associated with uveitis.

According to the company, Bausch + Lomb has the exclusive license for the commercialization and development of XIPERE in the United States and Canada.

“If approved by the FDA, XIPERE would be the first therapy available utilizing the suprachoroidal space for patients suffering from macular edema associated with uveitis, which is the leading cause of vision loss in people with uveitis,” said Yolande Barnard, vice president and general manager, U.S. Pharmaceuticals, Bausch + Lomb.

“XIPERE has the potential to advance the care of people suffering from macular edema with uveitis,” said George Lasezkay, Pharm.D., J.D., president and CEO, Clearside. “If approved, XIPERE would be our first commercial product and the first approved drug to be delivered into the suprachoroidal space (SCS®).”
