Essilor s’associe à l’ONU pour améliorer la sécurité routière dans le monde

Essilor a annoncé son engagement à faire un don d’un million de lunettes de vue et de lunettes de soleil au Fond des Nations Unies pour la sécurité routière (UNSRF). Ce partenariat vise à promouvoir un plan d’action mondial en faveur de la bonne vision sur la route. L’annonce intervient avant la 3ème Conférence ministérielle mondiale, prévue à Stockholm les 19 et 20 février prochains, qui fixera le programme pour atteindre les objectifs de l’ONU à l’horizon 2030 en matière de sécurité routière.

Chaque jour, 3700 personnes dans le monde perdent la vie dans des accidents de la route. Ils sont devenus aujourd’hui la première cause de décès chez les enfants et jeunes adultes âgés de 5 à 29 ans. La prévention des décès et accidents traumatiques liés à la route est essentielle pour atteindre les objectifs de développement durable des Nations Unies (ODD) en matière de santé, de villes et d’infrastructures, dans lesquels la sécurité routière joue un rôle important.

Jusqu’à 90 % de l’information nécessaire sur la route passe par la vue. Une bonne vision est donc essentielle pour que les conducteurs, les motards, les cyclistes et les piétons prennent des décisions sûres et appropriées sur la route. Et pourtant, une personne sur trois souffre encore d’une mauvaise vision non corrigée. Un problème souvent dû à un manque de sensibilisation ou un accès limité aux soins visuels dans de nombreuses parties du monde.

En s’associant à l’UNRSF, Essilor mettra à profit son expertise en matière de santé visuelle pour contribuer à une mobilité plus sûre dans le monde entier. Outre le don d’un million de lunettes de vue et de lunettes de soleil d’ici 2030, le groupe continuera d’innover pour apporter les solutions permettant de diagnostiquer, corriger, protéger et améliorer la vision de tous les usagers de la route.

La décision d’Essilor de rejoindre le UNRSF est une étape majeure dans l’engagement de l’entreprise pour une mobilité sûre, après la signature en 2017 du partenariat avec la Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) pour mener ensemble la lutte contre la mauvaise vision sur la route.
