The initial Canadian launch, set for
Spring 2020, will include 20 styles, comprising of 14 RX models and 6 Sun.
Designed in Montreal, OTP features modern structures and shapes for a fluid and
weightless feel. Retro inspired thin metal and translucent hand made acetate
define the RX collection and follow a distinct colour scheme of classic metallic
trends paired with soft neutrals. The sunwear collection is heavily influenced
by the vintage mod era with styles ranging from narrow cat eyes, to soft
squares and butterfly shapes.
With an eye on the environment, The OTP
collection features biodegradable demo lenses, polybags and temple sleeves
while the OTP branded case is constructed from regenerated materials, natural
rubber and water-based glues.
OTP will be
sold in Canada through the Wescan division with a US launch scheduled for later
in 2020.
Over
1,000 industry professionals from 40 countries in North America, South America,
Europe and Asia gathered this week at the J.W. Marriott Grande Lakes in Orlando
for the 24th annual Transitions Academy. During the two-day event – themed
“2020 Light It Up” – attendees took part in professional development and
product technology workshops; heard from experts and educators on marketing and
industry trends; and learned from their peers and partners.

Monday
afternoon began with a keynote on having a Growth Mindset presented by Neil
Pasricha, best-selling author and leadership development professional, during
which attendees learned how to improve their mindset and take their business
and life to an elevated level. Attendees closed the afternoon with another
industry elective session of their choice.
Transitions Academy continued on Tuesday with a presentation on how to Light Up Your Market. Tuesday morning closed with other industry elective sessions.
Tuesday afternoon began with Go Team: Light It Up, a team building scavenger hunt activity where teams competed for a prize donation to the charity of their choice. After the activity, Peter Sheahan, founder and group CEO of Karrikins Group, presented the closing keynote on how to “Become the Obvious Choice” of patients/consumers.
Each year, Seneca college
recognizes individuals who make significant contributions to college on campus
and in the community through The Senecans of Distinction Award.
Among the 2020 Award winners is
Opticianry professor and program coordinator, Tatiana Mighiu.
In making the award, Seneca College
recognizes Professor Mighiu’s passion and the respect she has earned among
academics and industry leaders. She has been the force behind syncing the full-
and part-time Opticianry programs, ensuring that industry standards are
exceeded in both programs.
Professor Mighiu has also worked to
improve Seneca graduates’ national exam averages by implementing changes to
classroom instruction. This resulted in Seneca ranking higher than the national
average in exam scores the following year. 2020 is the year to celebrate 20/20
vision, and there is no better time to honour her with this award.
