Kenneth Barbet will be leaving his current position as CEO of Eye Recommend (Doctors Eye Co Op Ltd.) by the end of July, and will be appointed President and CEO of Liquor Stores N.A., which operates liquor stores in western Canada and the USA. He has served as Eye Recommend’s CEO since 2009.
“Working to protect independent optometry and helping OD’s fulfill their business and personal goals has been one of the best experiences of my career,” said Ken in a email to Eye Recommend members. “I thank our Board of Directors, Members and partner suppliers for the opportunity to work in this amazing industry.”
Board director Dr. Howard Dolman wished Ken well in his new role and thanked him for his contributions to the organization.
Barbet has previous experience in the alcohol beverage industry as the CEO of Big Rock Brewery and VP of the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation.

Shire US recently announced the appointment of John Snisarenko as Group Vice President, Ophthalmology Business Unit. He replaces Robert Dempsey, who is moving to Shire Global as VP and Head of Global Ophthalmics.
John Snisarenko was previously VP Sales and Marketing, Rheumatology, at Genentech USA. Snisarenko has 30 years experience within the industry, having also worked at Novartis Pharma Canada, CIBA Vision and Novadaq Technologies, among others. He attended McGill University, where he received his MBA and his BSc in Biochemistry.
“I am joining Shire on the eve of the first anniversary of the ophthalmics franchise first marketed product, Xiidra, whose market performance has exceeded expectations,” Mr. Snisarenko said in a company statement. “I look forward to continuing to build on the successes of the Ophthalmics franchise, including advancing our pipeline and footprint in the eye care space.”
