Alexis MABILLE is Chairman of the 2024 Silmo d’Or Awards

SILMO Paris 2024

Hailing from Lyon, Alexis Mabille has had a passion for fashion since a very early age. He graduated in 1997 from the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne before working with the major Parisian fashion houses. In 2005, he created his eponymous brand with the aim of blending clothing tradition, a certain sex appeal and the energy of our time. Upending codes, twisting silhouettes, mixing periods… Alexis Mabille cultivates a playful spirit to create a light-minded and elegant wardrobe. He has rejuvenated the bow tie, going so far as to make it into his icon, then developed men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, accessory and tailored collections. He has thus been on the official calendar of Haute Couture since 2021.

Silmo d'or 2024 president

Passionate about many different artistic disciplines, Alexis Mabille couldn’t simply settle just for clothing. He quickly moves onto other creative realms, including interior decorating with his office Beau Bow. He brings his conception of the art of living to private apartments, restaurants and other entertainment venues (he recently designed the new décor of Lido in Paris). Since 2021, he has even created limited edition furniture.

For Alexis Mabille, a person’s overall environment is an essential component that influences their well-being. Just as a silhouette should emphasize the body while still being comfortable and just as a space’s interior should express the personality of its host while being suited to their lifestyle, a pair of glasses should highlight the character of the person wearing them while being functional and durable. By sharing his design expertise and creative vision with the members of the jury of the 2024 SILMO d’Or awards, he will provide valuable insight into this daily object that only needs to be enhanced by a shape, a material or an innovation.

Nominations Open for Second Annual Contact Lens Institute Culture Awards

contact lens institute

Nominations for the second annual Contact Lens Institute (CLI) Culture Awards are now being accepted through October 1. The program honours eye care professionals who foster a positive contact lens culture, exemplifying behaviors and actions that elevate patient experiences and business success as reflected in CLI’s recent See Tomorrow research reports.

Individuals within the U.S. and Canadian eye care community who prescribe or support soft contact lenses are eligible for consideration. Self-nominations are allowed and encouraged. Complete nomination information is available at contactlensinstitute.org/awards.

The inaugural honorees brought our See Tomorrow findings to life, demonstrating how intentional behaviors from everyone in a practice affect patients’ decisions to consider and continue wearing contact lenses. We are looking forward to discovering and celebrating another group of professionals who do the same—people who inspire their patients, their teams, and the entire industry to enjoy all that contact lenses offer for vision, lifestyle, and more.”

Stan Rogaski, executive director, Contact Lens Institute

Nominators simply need to provide a concise response (750 words or less in total) that addresses at least two of the following questions:
  • How has the nominee enhanced patient outcomes using soft contact lenses?
  • What initiatives, processes, or projects has the nominee put into place in their practice that enhances a positive culture for recommending soft contact lenses and patient wear?
  • How does the nominee engage practice staff to take an active advocacy role for healthy, happy soft contact lens wear?
  • Can you describe a particular nominee-patient interaction that exemplifies how soft contact lenses have changed or improved a patient’s life, and which may inspire colleagues?

To improve the chances of being recognized, nominators may reference positive contact lens behaviors identified in recent See Tomorrow reports, which are available for on-screen reading and/or download from  www.contactlensinstitute.org/resources/see-tomorrow.

Nominations must include the name/location/practice name/contact information of the candidate(s), as well as the name/affiliation/contact information for the nominator. Groups are eligible as long as all individuals are named, with a clearly designated leader. Entries must be emailed no later than October 1, 2024, at 11:59 pm ET to cli@contactlensinstitute.org. The submission can be written within the body of the email or attached as a Word or PDF document. Questions may be sent to the same address.

Selection will be at the sole discretion of the CLI Board of Directors. Honorees will be announced by the Contact Lens Institute in November 2024, with ongoing recognition into the following year.

ZEISS Offers Myopia Education Program

ZEISS MyoCare

Myopia is on the rise – up to 90% of the youth in Asia is already myopic, and forecasts predict that half of the world’s population will be myopic in 2050.[1] More than just causing blurry vision, myopia can affect quality of life in many ways.

“ZEISS acknowledges the essential contribution of eye care professionals in enhancing the lives of individuals with myopia by delivering superior quality care,” said Bryan Rossi, the President of Zeiss Vision Care Canada. “By investing in education and keeping up with the latest research and practice management, practitioners are well-equipped to provide the best possible care to their patients and help reduce the burden of myopia.”, he adds.

To support the professionals interested in myopia management, ZEISS has committed to developing an education program comprising several courses on aspects of myopia and myopia management solutions. The first course is available free of charge to those interested in myopia and myopia management. Further courses will also become available in the future.
