Christophe Pillet, Chairman of the Jury for SILMO D’OR 2019 awards

SILMO announced the French designer and interior architect Christophe Pillet will be the Chairman of the Jury for the SILMO D’OR 2019 Awards

After graduating from l’École nationale supérieure d’art of Nice in 1985, Christophe Pillet joined the Domus Academy in Milan to study with the greatest talents in the field. He received his degree there in 1986. While living in the capital of Lombardy, for four years he collaborated with Michele De Lucchi, Carlotta de Bevilacqua and Martine Bedin. He then joined Philippe Starck in Paris, where he worked from 1989 to 1993.  Following these diverse experiences, he founded his own agency in Paris in 1993.

“I am not seeking the extraordinary, but rather to reveal what is beautiful and moving in the ordinary,” he explains. This true stylistic signature has earned him a number of prizes and awards, and brought him to work for a variety of clients in furniture and product design as well as the interior architecture of hotels, restaurants, office buildings and mansions…

His elegant, contemporary style is always a delight, whatever the project. Moreover, he never ceases to expand his territories of application.  Nothing can stop this workaholic: he loves a good challenge and is buoyed by a natural curiosity of dealing with reality and adding his “French touch”, his understated, humanised aesthetic – never minimalist or cold – without compromising on an interest in innovation and technology.

Pillet does not promote the narcissistic flourishes of a designer seeking to impress. His approach is sensitive and restrained; he is always inclined to first consider the value of an object or place in terms of use before getting involved, never rushing into a project. Which automatically makes him the ideal chairman for the SILMO d’OR jury. He accepted this challenge with enthusiastic interest, especially since he has already had some initial experiences in the world of eyewear: in 2008, he designed a sunglasses line for the 75th anniversary of Lacoste, and in 2017, Vuarnet requested his services for its sports and lifestyle collections.

FYidoctors Adds Second Location in St. Albert

FYidoctors announced it will be bannering its second location in St. Albert, Alberta through the acquisition of St. Albert Optometrists’ Clinic.

As part of the acquisition, Dr. Aaron Patel, Dr. Rajan Mistry, Dr. Amy Bakelaar and their staff have been welcomed in as part of the FYidoctors team.

“FYidoctors is setting the standards for how eye care in Canada should be,” said Dr. Aaron Patel. “Having access to their existing technology will help us stay up-to-date on the latest methods and best practises when it comes to optometric care of our patients. We hold ourselves to a high standard, so we look forward to raising the bar for eye care even higher alongside FYidoctors.”

Dr. Patel has over 15 years of experience practicing primary eye care optometry – 12 of which were practiced in Edmonton. He is an engaged member of the optometry industry, previously serving as President of the Alberta Association of Optometrists and currently serving as a councilman of the Canadian Association of Optometrists. He prioritizes humanitarian efforts and personally travels to underdeveloped countries like Honduras, Peru and Belize to assist the less fortunate with eye care.

With almost 20 years experience as a practicing optometrist in the St. Albert community, Dr. Amy Bakelaar has cultivated extensive knowledge in the industry working for St. Albert Optometrists’ Clinic and at a local cornea and cataracts surgeons’ office. Similar to her colleagues, she donates her time volunteering for organizations like Third World Eye Care Society, Amigos Eye Care, Remote Area Medical Volutneers and I Care International.

Dr. Mistry completed both his undergraduate degree and optometry degree at the prestigious University of Waterloo. During his studies, he practiced in various settings such as hospitals in Oklahoma, clinics in Australia and has provided care of those in underdeveloped countries like Nicaragua and Peru.

This acquisition marks the second in Alberta within the last week.

Transitions Engages Consumers with Outdoor Boardroom, New Virtual Try-on Tool and Advertising Campaign

Transitions Optical has engaged consumers in a variety of ways this summer with the debut of a free outdoor boardroom for public use, a new consumer Facebook virtual try-on tool and the launch of this year’s consumer campaign.

In June, professionals in Toronto could book hour-long outdoor meetings in Transitions’ free Sun Session Boardroom to escape the fluorescent bulbs of indoors and experience Transitions® Light Intelligent Lenses™. Located outside the lively Royal Bank Plaza, the boardroom was nearly full during its operation and allowed both boardroom visitors and passerby to have meaningful interactions with the Transitions® brand, learn about Transitions® lenses and test the product out first-hand.

Beyond the in-person experience, Transitions has also given consumers another way to try out Transitions Light Intelligent Lenses through a newly launched Facebook virtual try-on tool. With this tool, people can see how they look indoors and outdoors in the many colour options of Transitions® Signature® and Transitions® XTRActive® lenses, including Transitions Signature style colors and Transitions XTRActive style mirrors.

Additionally, Transitions launched a new consumer campaign in April which will generate over 200 million impressions nationwide through both television and digital.  The campaign’s digital plan combines display banners, videos, paid search and social media reaching out to younger wearers.
