This clinic marks FYidoctors’ first location in Brantford, strengthening the company’s position in Ontario and demonstrating its commitment to providing high quality eye care from coast to coast. This full-spectrum clinic has been in operation since 1950, conveniently located in downtown Brantford, Ontario. Essilor Named one of Forbes’ 100 Most Innovative Companies

Essilor announced this week that it has been named by Forbes as one of 100 of the world’s “Most Innovative Companies” for 2017 for the seventh year in a row.

Essilor first earned a spot in this list in 2010 and has been ranked every year since among the world 100 publicly traded companies identified by investors as featuring the best innovation potential, now and in the future.

“Essilor’s approach to innovation is all about consumer-centricity, so as to answer their
current and future needs with advanced expertise,” says Laurent Vacherot, President and Chief Operating Officer of Essilor International. “Innovation has always been a
cornerstone of our strategy. We have one goal: to push back the frontiers of poor vision
worldwide.”

The “World’s Most Innovative Companies” list identifies the leading-edge corporations most likely to succeed now and in the future. It is the result of an eight-year study carried out by Clayton M. Christensen, a professor of disruptive innovation at Harvard Business School, in collaboration with Jeff Dyer, professor at Brigham Young University and Hal B. Gregersen, professor of leadership at INSEAD. The rankings are based on an assessment of each company’s “innovation premium,” a quantified metric that measures the premium the stock market gives a company for expected or anticipated innovation.

Transitions Launches Microsite Featuring Sun Protection Solutions

Pinellas Park, Fla. – To increase the number of conversations between eye care professionals and patients on the importance of  sun protection solutions  for the eyes and skin, Transitions Optical has released a microsite, found at Transitions.com/EyeSunAwareness, featuring educational resources that ECPs can learn from and share with patients. The materials were developed based on the insights and best practices shared during a panel discussion of eye and skin health experts and medical professionals, held in Ottawa on April 24, 2017.

The Transitions.com/EyeSunAwareness page features the following downloadable materials that ECPs can use to create more dialogue around sun protection for the eyes and skin:

  • Consumer brochure
  • In-office poster
  • Social media Images

To bring more ECPs into the sun protection conversation, Transitions Optical has published a white paper titled “Building Awareness: Engaging Canadian Millennials About Sun Protection Solutions.” The paper reports on current attitudes and behaviours of Millennials, Canada’s most represented generation in the workforce; strategies for connecting with Millennials; and a concrete plan of action that should be implemented moving forward. The paper, as well as video clips of key discussion moments that took place during the event, can be found at Transitions.com/EyeSunAwareness.

Sun Protection Solutions Statement Petition

During the panel, the participants agreed that dermatology, eye care and primary care physicians and professionals should use a similar, simple message when talking to patients about protecting their eyes and skin from the sun. A Proposed Sun Protection Solutions Statement from the panelists is posted on the website, and Transitions Optical urges ECPs to sign the petition to show their support if they agree with the proposed statement.

Contact Lens Health Week Promotes Healthy Contact Lens Wear and Care

The American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Optometry have joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and its other partners to promote Contact Lens Health Week, August 21-25. This year’s campaign theme is “Healthy Habits Mean Healthy Eyes.” These organizations are encouraging youth to start healthy habits early to help ensure a lifetime of healthy vision.

Eye care providers encourage patients to follow these guidelines for healthy contact lens wear:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Don’t sleep in your contact lenses.
  • Keep water away from your contact lenses.
  • Don’t “top off” solution.
  • Replace your contact lens case at least once every three months.
  • Give your eyes a rest.
  • Sterilize the night before planned wear, if you wear contact lenses sporadically.
  • Decorative lenses must be prescribed and fitted by an eye care professional.

“While we focus on Contact Lens Health Week, it is important to remember that both patients and prescribers alike should maintain a year-round vigilance regarding eye health. Nothing improves the safety of contact lens wear like the continual reinforcement of and compliance with proper lens wear, proper lens care, and proper patient follow up,” says Clarke D. Newman, OD, FAAO, Chair of the American Academy ofOptometry’s Section on Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies.
