Essilor Canada Launches Suite of Myopia Management Solutions

Essilor Canada will launch a full range of myopia management solutions in early 2022, making it the first country in North America to offer a comprehensive vision care portfolio of a lens device plus related diagnostic and practice management aids.

Later this year (2021) on a pilot basis, Essilor will introduce Essilor Stellest™ lens, which slows down the progression of myopia in children. The broader launch across the country will be made early in 2022.

In addition to the Stellest lens, Essilor will launch a suite of digital instruments and solutions including the Myopia Expert 700 and the Essibox Myopia Care to help eye care professionals improve their myopia management practice.

Research and Development History.
From clinical trials in the 1980s to recent strategic partnerships with organizations such as the International Myopia Institute or the Global Myopia Awareness Coalition, Essilor has been committed to developing innovative and effective solutions to help slow down myopia progression in children and contribute to preventing high myopia in the future.

Essilor Stellest™ lens has been designed with proprietary technology called “H.A.L.T.” (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target).

The H.A.L.T. technology consists of a constellation of aspherical lenslets spread on 11 rings and was designed to create a volume of signal that slows down the elongation of the eye.

The optical properties of the lenslets on each ring have been determined to guarantee a volume of signal always in front of the retina and follow its shape. In addition, Essilor Stellest™ lenses are comfortable, and easy to adapt for children: 90% of children are fully adapted within three days and 100% within one week according to a two-year controlled, randomized, double-masked clinical trial results on 54 myopic children wearing Stellest™ lenses compared to 50 myopic children wearing single vision lenses.

Solutions Include a Suite of Instruments
Essilor also announced they will provide a highly accurate, turnkey resource that enables proactive myopia management by eyecare professionals through its Myopia Expert 700 with its digital Essibox Myopia Care solution, in addition to the lenses.

The Myopia Expert 700 will help eyecare professionals build a compelling myopia management patient journey from onset detection to progression monitoring thereby helping positioning professionals as myopia experts.

The device’s aim is to maximize engagement of the patient’s family in myopia management to boost satisfaction, loyalty, and traffic. Finally, the Essibox Myopia Care brings a scalable and professional protocol to practices for the early detection and monitoring of myopia.

Essilor believes that everyone has a role to play in the fight against myopia, with eyecare professionals on the front lines. That’s why Essilor is proud to partner with Canadian experts on its advisory board and is already working with eyecare professionals on a pilot launch to share best practices and meet the specific needs of Canadians with comprehensive myopia management solutions”, according to the company statement.

EssilorLuxottica’s Q3 2021 Revenue

EssilorLuxottica announced that consolidated revenue including GrandVision (consolidated since July 1, i.e. for the third quarter only) totalled Euro 14,241 million in the first nine months of the year. On a comparable basis, consolidated revenue amounted to Euro 5,465 million in the third quarter and Euro 15,918 million in the nine months, +9.3% and +6.2% respectively at constant exchange rates versus the same periods of 2019.

Francesco Milleri and Paul du Saillant, CEO and Deputy CEO of EssilorLuxottica, said: “We are proud of the revenue performance our Company delivered in the third quarter of the year, keeping the pace of the fast recovery already posted in the second quarter. Including GrandVision, in its first quarter of consolidation into the Group, EssilorLuxottica’s comparable revenue grew even faster, at 9.3% versus pre-COVID levels at constant exchange rates.

Moreover, while accelerating in revenue, our Company has materially expanded its margins, proving to which extent it can operationally leverage the business growth. This has led us to upgrade once again our outlook for the full year, now pointing to a more material operating margin lift. Such a sound performance is driven by the Company’s omnichannel and open business model, its new integrated commercial initiatives and its rich innovation pipeline, all at the heart of its long-term strategy.

In the context of the World Sight Day, celebrated on October 14, we’re also pleased to highlight all the initiatives the Company put in place in many different geographies to give vision a voice, while its ‘Eyes on the Planet’ sustainability program continues to progress nicely, based on the five pillars of carbon, circularity, world sight, inclusion and ethics.
