“It’s a genuine honor to be named among peers for whom I have the utmost respect and admiration,” said Jones, who also topped the list in 2019. “No single person is responsible for the breathtaking advances being made in contact lenses. Moreover, there’s unprecedented collaboration among these researchers, further accelerating the pace of change.”

Expertscape objectively ranks people and institutions by their expertise in more than 29,000 topics, based on searches of PubMed-logged articles spanning the past decade. The website allows health care professionals and consumers to find the best institutions, the leading experts, and the latest publications about a range of medical subjects. The entire contact lens ranking—which accounted for 3,688 articles published from 2011-2021, can be accessed at http://expertscape.com/ex/contact+lenses

Dr. Jones is also represented on Expertscape’s contact lens solutions global experts’ list, ranked number three.

CNIB Announces Opening of New SmartLife Centres Across Canada

CNIB celebrated the grand opening of the Nanji Family Foundation CNIB SmartLife Centre in Barrie on August 13, 2021.

CNIB SmartLife is an interactive retail experience that gives people with disabilities of all ages hands-on access to the latest breakthroughs in assistive technologies, as well as tried-and-true favourites. The opening of the Barrie CNIB SmartLife Centre, now the second location in the country, was made possible by a generous donation from the Nanji Family Foundation.

“The ultimate goal of SmartLife is to give our customers the skills and confidence they need to make the most out of assistive tools that can help them lead better lives,” says Gary Nenson, Vice President of Philanthropy for CNIB. “We’re incredibly grateful to the Nanji Family Foundation for this extraordinary gift. With their support, we’ll be able to empower Canadians with disabilities to take full advantage of these life-changing products and technologies.”

Thanks to the transformational gift made by the Nanji Family Foundation, the organization will be opening an additional four SmartLife Centres across Canada over the next several months – including locations in Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, and Brampton.

“The sense of sight is something many of us take for granted,” says Pyarali Nanji. “So we wanted to find a way to give back by increasing access to innovative technology and training for Canadians with sight loss.”

Essilor Canada Offers New Edition from Sight Guide for Children

Essilor Canada presents its sight guide just in time for back to school. Originally published in 2019, this 24-page booklet, intended primarily for children between the ages of 7 and 11, in French and English, is made available to everyone in order to raise public awareness of the importance of good vision.

A Fun and Educational Tool for Children

“Your vision: everything you need to know about your superpower” explains in a fun way thanks to colourful illustrations the importance of eyes and visual health to children. The guide presents how the eye works, the vision problems that people may encounter during their lifetime, the right behaviors to adopt to take care of their eyesight, such as the rules for using screens and the need to protect their eyes of the sun.

Through quizzes and tests, the teaching guide encourages the child to meet an optometrist, “the super-defender of eyesight”, in order to check the good health of his eyes and play down the wearing of glasses. “The glasses team”, that of the superheroes!

A Guide Available to Everyone, and Also to ECPs

While visual defects are overwhelmingly easy to correct, they can commonly go unnoticed. This is why the last section of the guide is dedicated specifically to parents to remind them that regular visits to an optometrist is useful to know exactly where their child’s sight is.

While 25% of school-age children suffer from vision problems, this guide is part of Essilor’s corporate mission (improving lives by improving sight), which makes it available free of charge to Eye Care Professionals.

ECPs can have copies in their waiting room and give them to children before they go to the examination room or during discussions with their parents.
