Starting September 23, visitors canregister on the MIDO websitefor the forthcoming edition of the international eyewear show.
February 4-6, the world of optics will meet at MIDO 2023, where the best the industry has to offer in terms of trends, innovation, design, sustainability and creativity will be on display, in a setting where deals are made, and sales closed.
MIDO 2023 opens with a fresh look and a new claim: “The Eyewear State of the Art”. Both epitomize the values that, for more than 50 years, have set this show apart – contemporaneity, culture, fashion and beauty.
“We are hard at work on the 2023 show, after the April 2022 edition (the first post-pandemic show) exceeded all expectations, drawing the participation of 22,000 professionals and 670 exhibiting companies,” noted President Giovanni Vitaloni.
Data confirm that, thanks to its strong international orientation, eyewear is among the sectors most successful in responding to recent adversities. In the first quarter of 2022, exports from January to March surged by 32.3% compared to the same period in 2019 and grew 35.3% over 2021.
MIDO will take place at Fiera Milano, February 4-6, 2023.
FYidoctors announces it has been named one of Canada’s Top Growing companies on the 2022 Report on Business annual ranking, unveiled this week. The organization earned its place on the prestigious list by generating a three-year growth rate of more than 65%. Moreover, it is the only company in the optical and eye care industry to make this year’s ranking.
One of the main growth drivers of FYidoctors and its Quebec-based banner, Visique, is its unique approach: doctor-led, professionally managed, and patient focused. Since its inception in 2008, the organization concentrates on delivering outstanding eye care along with patient-centric products and services. FYihealth group has grown to 400 locations in North America, with close to 700 Optometrist Doctors leading the evolution of eye care and eye health. FYidoctors ranked 399th of a total 430 companies named to the 2022 list.
“We are so proud to be named to the list of Canada’s Top Growing Companies this year,” said Dr. Alan Ulsifer, Chair and CEO of FYihealth group. “We are excited for this achievement and the growth we have been able to achieve given the pandemic and the hyper-competitive environment of our industry. Our teams, whether at the home office or clinic levels, have shown incredible commitment, loyalty, resilience, motivation, and hard work—all of which has been instrumental to our success.”
Canada’s Top Growing Companies is an editorial ranking that was launched in 2019. It aims to celebrate the boldest entrepreneurial achievement by identifying and bringing the accomplishments of innovative businesses in Canada to the forefront. To qualify for this voluntary program; companies had to complete an in-depth application process and fulfill requirements.
The full list of 2022 companies along with editorial coverage is published in the October issue of Report on Business magazine. The list is out now and online here.
Bausch + Lomb announced the presentation of one podium and two poster presentations at the World Cornea Congress VIII meeting, which will take place in Chicago from Sept. 28-29, 2022.
The podium presentation will feature findings from the pivotal Phase 3 trials of the investigational treatment NOV03 (perfluorohexyloctane), and the poster presentations will include pre-clinical data of NOV03 and data from Bausch + Lomb’s ongoing Antibiotic Resistance Monitoring in Ocular micRoorganisms (ARMOR) surveillance study. The ARMOR study is the only ongoing surveillance study of its kind that evaluates profiles and trends in antibiotic resistance among common ocular bacterial pathogens across the United States.
“With the recent FDA acceptance of the New Drug Application for NOV03, we look forward to attending the World Cornea Congress so we can share valuable insights from our NOV03 clinical development program with the ophthalmic community,” said Christina Ackermann, president, Ophthalmic Pharmaceuticals, Bausch + Lomb. “We will also present findings from our unique ARMOR study, which for more than a decade has helped guide eye care professionals in selecting the most appropriate antibiotic treatment options to meet the needs of their patients.”

As part of a partnership to support the next generation of eye care professionals, Transitions Optical in Canada and the Opticians Association of Canada (OAC) are now accepting submissions for the 2022 Students of Vision Scholarship Program. Currently enrolled (for the 2022-2023 school year) opticianry, optometry and optometric assistant students from across Canada are eligible to apply for the chance to win one of three prizes: a $2,500, $1,500 or $500 scholarship.
To enter the scholarship program, students must develop a project in the form of an essay, video or presentation about how they will advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion in order to help educate patients and protect their vision. A webpage with more information can be found at 2022 STUDENTS OF VISION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (transitions.com).
This year’s scholarship was inspired by new research from Transitions Optical demonstrating the need for further education surrounding eye health for diverse patients. Transitions Optical and the Opticians Association of Canada are committed to driving positive changes within the industry that support the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion for populations who have historically not been treated equally, and who may also be impacted by lack of access to health care and other resources to improve their health and well-being.
“Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC) in Canada are quickly becoming the majority – and as a result, more eye care professionals are experiencing a culturally diverse patient base with unique vision care and communication needs,” said Arnaud Rajchenbach, marketing and sales manager, Transitions Optical in Canada. “We are proud to support upcoming and new professionals in the optical industry to provide relevant and useful resources to help their patient bases protect their eyes.”
“We are proud to again partner with Transitions Optical to address an issue that is of tremendous relevancy – around the globe and here in Canada,” said Robert Dalton, Executive Director, OAC. “We look to the future of the industry to help us learn more and better understand how we, as eye care professionals, can lead the way forward.”
All submissions should be sent to StudentsofVision@Transitions.com by November 1, 2022. The winners will be announced on November 15, 2022.
