Transitions Announces Launch of AMD Research Project Grant Program in Partnership with Eye Disease Foundation

The Transitions Canada team is partnering with the Eye Disease Foundation through a research project grant program which will go toward supporting research of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The Eye Disease Foundation has partnered with Transitions Optical for several years due to support its commitment to improving vision. Over the course of the next two years, Transitions Optical will be donating $40,000 CAD to the Eye Disease Foundation – $20,000 CAD in 2021 and $20,000 CAD in 2022.

“We are grateful for Transitions Optical’s generous and ongoing commitment to our research around AMD,” said Steeve Lachance, general manager of the Eye Disease Foundation. “This donation will allow us to continue to conduct studies to better understand eye diseases, including AMD, and to ultimately improve the lives of many suffering today and in the future.”

Additionally, Transitions is also presenting the Starlight Virtual Fundraiser taking place December 10, 2021. As presenting sponsor, Transitions Optical’s donation will support the planning and execution of the virtual fundraiser event, where attendees can enjoy a gourmet box of imported wines, cheeses, fruits, crackers, and charcuteries. Funds raised from the event will help support research by the Eye Disease Foundation.

FYidoctors announces its newest partner in Newmarket, Ontario’s Dr. Boulos Medical Spa. The partnership marks the 6th Ontario-based medical aesthetics clinic onboarded in recent weeks, as FYidoctors continues its expansion across the country.

“Dr. Shahira Boulos and her team have consistently ranked atop the list of medical aesthetics service providers in the Newmarket region for almost a decade,” says Dr. Al Ulsifer, Chair and CEO of FYidoctors. “The care and knowledge that has gone into her business is evidenced by this operational success.”

EssilorLuxottica’s Q3 2021 Revenue

EssilorLuxottica announced that consolidated revenue including GrandVision (consolidated since July 1, i.e. for the third quarter only) totalled Euro 14,241 million in the first nine months of the year. On a comparable basis, consolidated revenue amounted to Euro 5,465 million in the third quarter and Euro 15,918 million in the nine months, +9.3% and +6.2% respectively at constant exchange rates versus the same periods of 2019.

Francesco Milleri and Paul du Saillant, CEO and Deputy CEO of EssilorLuxottica, said: “We are proud of the revenue performance our Company delivered in the third quarter of the year, keeping the pace of the fast recovery already posted in the second quarter. Including GrandVision, in its first quarter of consolidation into the Group, EssilorLuxottica’s comparable revenue grew even faster, at 9.3% versus pre-COVID levels at constant exchange rates.

Moreover, while accelerating in revenue, our Company has materially expanded its margins, proving to which extent it can operationally leverage the business growth. This has led us to upgrade once again our outlook for the full year, now pointing to a more material operating margin lift. Such a sound performance is driven by the Company’s omnichannel and open business model, its new integrated commercial initiatives and its rich innovation pipeline, all at the heart of its long-term strategy.

In the context of the World Sight Day, celebrated on October 14, we’re also pleased to highlight all the initiatives the Company put in place in many different geographies to give vision a voice, while its ‘Eyes on the Planet’ sustainability program continues to progress nicely, based on the five pillars of carbon, circularity, world sight, inclusion and ethics.

CooperVision Specialty EyeCare Launches OPO for Onefit MED and Onefit MED+ Scleral Lenses

CooperVision Specialty EyeCare announced the launch of Optimized Pupil Optics (OPO) for its Onefit™ MED and Onefit™ MED+ scleral contact lenses to eye care providers (ECPs) in the United States and Canada. The new high precision design option—which is supported by a user-friendly online fitting tool—enables ECPs to reposition the multifocal optics to align with the visual axis.

OPO lenses incorporate several markings, including a six o’clock dot indication to help patients orient the lens correctly on their eye, a circle of eight small dots at 6 mm to indicate the new center of the optics for pupil centration, plus toric hash marks notating the flat meridian as seen in other Onefit™ MED toric haptic designs.

“The shape of a patient’s sclera—paired with the tension of their eyelids—can often cause scleral lenses to decenter down and out. This moves the optics out of ideal alignment and impacts their quality of vision, including creating higher order aberrations for multifocal wearers,” said Justine Siergey, OD, FSLS, Manager of Professional Affairs – Irregular Cornea at CooperVision Specialty EyeCare. “With the new Optimized Pupil Optics’ design option, practitioners are able to dramatically improve the patient’s visual outcomes and their satisfaction.”

“Part of our role as an industry partner is to continually improve and build upon our broad portfolio of innovative scleral lens designs,” said Marie-Christine Blanchard, Global Lead, Irregular Cornea, CooperVision Specialty EyeCare. “Our commitment to supporting the increasing number of ECPs who fit specialty lenses starts by providing innovative technologies that address their patients’ evolving needs, and ultimately, grow their practice.”
